Getting targeted visitors from TopSites
TopSites are sites which will list your website for free. However if you want
them to send you traffic, you have to send them traffic.
The way it works is fairly simple. You register your site and they list all
the sites that have registered with them. The sites are ranked in order of who
sends them the most visitors so if you send 100 visitors to them and everybody
else only sends 50 visitors to them you will be ranked first and therefore be
at the top of the list.
Which lists to join
When choosing a TopSites list to join your main aim will be to get targeted
traffic. The best way to do this is to go to a search engine and search for
a TopSites list which covers the category you are looking for. For example if
you had a news site you would probably search for "news TopSites"
or "news TopLists."
You should only join lists you can do well in too. If you join a list where
sites are refering 1000's of visitors and you can only refer a few dozen there
is no point registering as if you can't make it onto the first page, very few
visitors will ever see your site.
How to refer visitors
The best way to refer visitors is with a good old fashioned text link.
A lot of sites use pop ups to refer visitors but most sites do not like this
as people usually close pop up windows and so the site will usually put in a
script so that referals from pop ups are not counted.
